David Malat is a Managing Director and serves as Wolfe Trahan & Co.’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer. His roles include the development and oversight of the company’s infrastructure including accounting systems, legal, regulatory and compliance practices, broker/dealer soft dollar arrangements, human resources, IT, office administration, vendor relationships and counterparty negotiations.

Prior to joining Wolfe Trahan, Mr. Malat had a distinguished 20 year career as a Chief Financial Officer on the buy side. During his tenure at The Zweig Companies from 1989 to 1998, he presided over a group that provided the operational and administrative infrastructure for its businesses, including open end and closed end mutual funds, two hedge funds, and a consulting business. He was also the President and FINOP of Zweig’s broker/dealer. While at Pequot Capital Management from 1998-2001, Mr. Malat had complete fiscal responsibility for the management company and hedge funds, including venture capital and private equity. He was a member of the firm’s Operating Committee.

From 2001 to 2008 Mr. Malat as a CFO helped launch, create and direct the operations of several start-up hedge funds including Searock Capital Management, and Rhombus Capital Management. Prior to his time as a CFO on the buy side, Mr. Malat began his financial services career in 1981 at Spicer & Oppenheim and in 1988 became Vice President in the Controller’s Group at Oppenheimer & Co.

Dave earned a BS in Business Administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo and is a Certified Public Accountant. He lives in Warren, New Jersey with his wife, three children and three dogs.
